Students complete 50 venipunctures and 10 microtechnique punctures before gaining permission to enter into their clinicals. The program prepares students to sit for a national exam. 

Although the state does not require licensure or certification to become a phlebotomist, the best jobs will likely go to those candidates that are highly qualified, compared to those that do not complete a phlebotomy program and obtain certification.
